New and further development of a B2B software for order processing in the automotive sector

The goal of this project was to update a B2B software of a leading European vehicle manufacturer to the latest technical state of the art. Thus, not only the security level should be increased, but also the usability should be optimized. Furthermore, additional business processes and functionalities were added to the software.
Specifically, the application is a portal that the vehicle manufacturer uses together with a large number of bodybuilders for joint order processing and quality control.

The BITS employees took over the development in the area of frontend and backend, the agile IT project management, the IT consulting for the security and the creation of UI/UX prototypes.

Challenge

One challenge was to quickly get up to speed on a customer’s existing application with complex technical and business issues and business logic.
Another challenge was the replacement of the legacy application, which took a considerable amount of time due to the outdated technology stack.
The decision for agile project management required intensive collaboration between BITS and the customer. This was particularly successful due to agile structures with regular feedback loops, retrospectives and updates.

  • Inventory application of the customer with complex technical and business issues and business logics

  • Replacing the legacy application with an outdated technology stack

  • Intensive cooperation between BITS and the customer due to the agile approach

Realization

At the beginning it was very important to define the requirements and goals exactly with the customer, to involve all project participants and to decide on the approach (agile). Next, the project was planned and divided into sprints so we could meet the client’s goals per sprint. A click model was created so that the application can be tested and optimized at an early stage.

The application was expanded at three-month intervals to include the latest developments, which were then put into production. This made it possible to obtain feedback on each Sprint version on the integration environment. This gave the customer the opportunity to introduce requests or comments at short notice before commissioning on the production environment. This enabled BITS to react quickly and flexibly to the customer’s new requirements and to identify and eliminate potential errors at an early stage.
