Was macht eigentlich ein IT-Consultant & Projektmanager bei der BITS?
– Ein Interview mit unserem IT-Consultant & Projektmanager Oliver. –
“After just a few days, I took over the management of my first “own” development project, or rather, I was allowed to take over. After all, it is not a matter of course to be given so much trust straight after graduating.”
Oliver started his career at BITS shortly before graduating. After joining the company, he quickly took over the management of his first “own” development project. We spoke with him in 2023 about his start and career at BITS and asked him if he feels comfortable with us and why.
BITS:
“Hello Oliver, why don’t you introduce yourself?”
Oliver:
“Hi, I’m Oliver, 26 years old and I’ve been at BITS for around 2 years. I studied technology and management-oriented business administration (“TUM-BWL”) with a focus on computer science – I’ve always been very interested in business, but also IT-savvy.”
BITS:
“So how did you hear about BITS?”
Oliver:
„In meinem Fall ist wohl eher die BITS auf mich aufmerksam geworden: Ich war gerade in meinem letzten Semester und befand mich via dem Erasmus-Programm in Spanien. Über LinkedIn hat mich dann ein – damals noch externer – Personalberater der BITS kontaktiert. Es wurde schnell klar, dass die BITS und ich auf einer Wellenlänge liegen. Der Rest ging dann im direkten Gespräch mit Nico und Alex ruck zuck.“
BITS:
“How was your first day and start at BITS?”
Oliver:
“The first day was all about getting to know my colleagues and organizational issues. But I received a very warm and friendly welcome and immediately felt at home. The start itself was quick and exciting. I joined BITS at an interesting time, there was a lot to do and I was able to get involved quickly. On the one hand, it was challenging, as you could take on responsibility for a wide range of topics early on and contribute your own ideas, but on the other hand, it was exactly what I was looking for.”
BITS:
“That sounds exciting. What was your job there?”
Oliver:
“After just a few days, I took over the management of my first “own” development project, or rather, I was allowed to take over. After all, to be given so much trust straight after graduation is not a matter of course. I am still in charge of the project today, even though we have of course released several new versions and implemented a large number of new use cases in the meantime. Many other varied and exciting projects were added over the course of the year.”
BITS:
“And what exactly do you do every day at BITS?”
Oliver:
“I spend a lot of time coordinating with customers and colleagues. This usually involves project budgeting, quotations and invoicing, time and resource planning, current project statuses, team coordination, or the discussion and cost estimation of upcoming development tasks or new projects. I see myself as a supporter or – in a broader sense – a “sparring partner” for my colleagues and clients: My aim is to ensure that their projects run as smoothly as possible and to take on administrative tasks, for example, so that they ultimately have more time for their actual work. If the processes are properly coordinated and responsibilities and tasks are clearly assigned so that everyone involved in the project has the feeling that “everything is running smoothly”, then I’ve done my job well.”
BITS:
Oliver:
“For me, it’s the trust placed in me, the opportunity to take on responsibility and grow with it, interesting project topics and, above all, the great colleagues – it’s simply fun to be at BITS, both professionally and personally!”
BITS:
Oliver:
“I think a medium-sized company is a great employer to be able to contribute your skills early on and learn a lot. Especially “fresh from university”. You also have the opportunity to pursue your interests and come into contact with a wide range of different areas of the company. With regard to BITS in particular, I think the culture, the team spirit and the sense of community among colleagues are great. On the one hand, we support each other during intensive project phases, can learn a lot from each other and count on each other, and on the other hand, there is the opportunity for a change of pace together at the foosball table or on our company outings.”
BITS:
“Last but not least: Many applicants are interested in getting an impression of the people behind their future colleagues – what do you like and do “in private”?”
Oliver:
“Outside of work, I like to be active, be it with urban sports with HIIT, bouldering, spinning, martial arts, and fitness or jogging, hiking in the mountains, and much more. I also enjoy cooking & reading, watching series, listening to podcasts and music or hanging out with friends in cafés, restaurants and bars.”
BITS:
“Thank you Oliver”.
Oliver:
“Anytime
with pleasure!
