From working student in development to software engineer and architect

– An interview with our software developer and architect Florian. –

“Initially as a working student, my main focus was on development and related tasks. But over time, and especially since my role as a software engineer and architect, my responsibilities have grown.”

Florian started his career as a working student at BITS. After joining, he quickly took on additional areas of responsibility and further expanded his expertise. We spoke with him in 2023 about his start and career at BITS and asked him if he feels comfortable with us and why.

BITS:

“Hi Flo, why don’t you introduce yourself?”

Florian:

“Hi. I’m Flo, 26 years old, and I studied computer science. Already during my bachelor’s degree I had the opportunity to dive deeper into the IT world, both through my studies and my private interests.”

BITS:

“So how did you hear about BITS?”

Florian:

“During my studies, I was looking for opportunities to gain practical experience. I came across the working student position at BITS through an acquaintance and was immediately attracted to the projects and work culture.”

BITS:

“How was your first day and start at BITS?”

Florian:

“To be honest, I don’t remember every detail of my first day, but I know I felt very welcome. The team made it easy for me to integrate and learn the ropes.”

BITS:

“Very nice. What was your job there in the beginning?”

Florian:

“Initially as a working student, my main focus was on development and related tasks. But over time, and especially since my role as software engineer and architect, my responsibilities have grown. Currently, one of the things I’m taking care of is moving an application to a Kubernetes environment that I set up.”

BITS:

“And what exactly do you do every day at BITS?”

Florian:

“My workday is quite varied, I often program or design software solutions. I also like to support colleagues with technical problems. I have the most contact during work with my developer team. We work together on several projects.”

BITS:

“What would you say you like best about working at BITS?”

Florian:

“There are many things I value here. The opportunity to take on responsibility is at the top of the list. There is also an emphasis on allowing employees to contribute their own ideas. And not to forget: the uncomplicated and direct communication within the team and with superiors.”
