SAP IDoc

SAP | SAP IDoc | EDI
SAP IDoc (Intermediate Document) is a standardized interface for exchanging data between SAP systems or between SAP systems and external systems. IDocs are used to transfer data from one SAP system to another or from an SAP system to an external system.

IDocs are used to transfer data in the form of electronic documents between SAP systems or between SAP systems and external systems. They are used to transfer data such as orders, invoices and delivery bills. IDocs are similar to EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) documents used to exchange business data between companies.

IDocs are used in various business scenarios, such as:

Transfer of data between SAP systems (e.g. transfer of a sales order from one SAP system to another)
Transfer of data from an SAP system to an external system (e.g. transfer of a sales order from an SAP system to an external system)
Transfer of data from an external system to an SAP system (e.g. transfer of a sales order from an external system to an SAP system)
There are several technologies and tools related to IDocs:

SAP NetWeaver PI (Process Integration) is an integration platform that allows you to exchange data between SAP systems and external systems using IDocs.
SAP ALE (Application Link Enabling) is a technology that enables data to be transferred between SAP systems using IDocs.
IDoc-XML is a standard that allows you to exchange IDocs in XML format. This allows you to exchange IDocs with systems that do not natively support the IDoc format.
BAPIs (Business Application Programming Interfaces) are interfaces defined by SAP that enable access to SAP business data and functions from external systems. BAPIs can be used to create, change or delete SAP business data and to trigger SAP business functions. BAPIs can be called via IDocs.

BITS experts have used SAP IDoc in a wide range of projects. A selection of case studies and references can be found below.
